Historian, Glynda Thompson to speak on the History of Osceola

  • “What was Osceola’s original name and why?”
  • “Why did area farmers take a rope to the   courthouse, threatening to hang the judge, and some landowners?”
  • “What was the original name of Violet Cemetery?”
  • “What was the first building in ‘New Town’ Osceola?”

Come and hear the answers to these questions and many more while you enjoy the interesting history of Osceola Thursday, October 8, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. The class will meet in the Mississippi County Hisotrical and Genealogical Society Museum, 209 West Hale, Osceola, AR . The class is FREE. There will be time to explore the museum.

Book a Space in ANC’s “Scrapbooking” Class

Scrapbooking for beginners and intermediates will be offered on Mondays, September 28 – October 13, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Adams/Vines Gallery. Registration fee is $10 for 3 sessions.

Photos capture a moment and albums allow one to celebrate and share the richness of those moments. Creating one’s own treasured scrapbook album is easy with four simple steps. Creative Memory consultant, Jaclyn Byrd, will teach new digital scrapbooking technology using those simple steps. Bring your photos to class with your own supplies or order starter kits from Ms. Byrd before class or on first day of class.

The Game of Chess Offered at ANC

text info105We are offering The Game of Chess on Tuesdays, October 6 – 27 to beginners ages 7 – 12 years old and to beginners ages 12 years to adult. Ages 7 to 12 will meet from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and ages 12 to adult will meet 5:30 to 6:30. The classes will meet in room L105 in the Adams/Vines Building on the ANC Blytheville campus. The fee is $24 for 4 sessions.

CHESSHOUSE.com describes chess as the “gymnasium of the mind.”  Dr Peter Dauvergne of  University of Sydney believes that “chess is one of the few (games) that fully exercises our minds.”
