Computer Basics Offered

Computer Basics will be offered on Fridays, September 7th through the 28th from  10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The class will meet in room B206 in the Sullins Administration Building on the ANC Blytheville campus. The fee is $46.

Discover what computers are all about as you learn the basic hardware and operation of a computer system. Learn desktop basics, about menus, toolbars, drives, files and folders. Access windows and master the use of the mouse as you point, click, and drag.  Randy Newman will instruct the class.

Art Zone: After School Art Club for Kids

“Art Zone: After School Art Club” for children will meet on Mondays, September 10 through October 15 from 4:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m. The class will meet on the Blytheville Campus in room B115 in the John P. Sullins Administration Building.  Registration fee is $50 and includes supplies.

Join us after school at ANC!  Using a particular theme for each class, participants will work with a variety of mediums while exploring their artistic imagination through drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking.  Supply list will be available upon registration.  The instructor is in the process of pursuing a degree in Art Education at Arkansas State University.

Children’s Dance Class

Children’s Dance Program for  ages 3 and oler will meet on Tuesdays, September 4 to May 28. Children ages 3 to 4 years old will meet 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Children ages 5,6 and 7 will meet 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Children ages 8, 9 and 10 will meet 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.   Children 11 years and older will meet from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Registration fee is $75 annually and includes student’s dance attire for the dance year, either a leotard with a tutu or shirt with jazz pants. The one hour tap and ballet class fee is $55 monthly. The one and half hour ballet, tap and jazz class fee is $65 monthly. Classes will meet in the Adams/Vines Recital Hall. Registration date is Tuesday, September 4 starting at 4:00 p.m.

 Younger dancers love to move and pretend. We utilize these natural tendencies to gently introduce them to ballet and tap in an imaginative, creative and encouraging atmosphere. Children learn through creative dance sequences, rhythmic songs and imaginative pretending.

Experienced dancers will be offered both lyrical and classical ballet, tap and jazz with a greater emphasis on both technique and personal style. Dancers will continue their education while learning to embrace all forms and aesthetics of dance while achieving a better understanding of the importance of proper body alignment and posture.

Dance instructor, Taylor Walker, has performed on stage in over six states and in two countries. Ms. Taylor’s dance career began when she was only twelve years old and has flourished since her early days as a dance assistant at the Cheryl Anderson School of Dance in Marion, Arkansas. Merely four years later she was teaching classes of her own, after two more years she moved on to become the Director of the Preschool Program at EastArkansasDanceAcademy as well as Assistant Director. During the summer of 2007. Ms. Taylor opened her own dance studio in Marion, Arkansas, quaintly named, The Studio.

Parents are invited to come on Tuesday, September 4 at 4:00 p.m. in the Adams/Vines Recital Hall to get acquainted with our dance instructor, Taylor Walker, and learn more about the dance program. Students may also be able to register for classes at this time.

Digital Camera De-Mystified

Digital Cameras De-Mystified will be offeredon Thursdays, September 13th and 20th from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The class will meet on the Blytheville campus in the SullinsAdministrationBuilding. The fee is $35.

Digital cameras are everywhere these days but learning how to use them isn’t always easy. Does your camera take pictures only or does it also shoot video? Are your images recorded to an internal hard drive or do you need flash media? What is Flash media and how can this camera be used to take great pictures?

 Award-winning Photojournalist and Cinematographer H. Woflgang Porter will take away the mysteries of using your digital camera. In the fun course Digital Cameras De-Mystified, students will learn basic camera controls, how to better expose and compose photos, the differences in recording media used by today’s popular digital cameras and how to download/store your precious images. 

 Students will need to bring to class a digital camera and its manual, recording media, computer connection cable(s) and one small USB Drive 1GB or larger capacity.

Beginning Acoustic Guitar Class

Beginning Acoustic Guitar class for ages 9 years old and up will meet on Thursdays, September 6 to October 11, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The class will meet in the Adams/Vines Gallery on the Blytheville campus. Registration fee is $36 for six sessions. Student purchases book from instructor on first day of class.

In this course, students will learn basic strumming patterns, simple chord progressions, tuning methods and note identification. Students provide their own acoustic guitar and book.

Instructor Charles Moody plays the banjo and mandolin, but this real passion is with the guitar. After playing for over 30 years, his favorite styles include classical, jazz, country and rock. Born in Memphis, he has recorded in major studios, toured the U.S. with different bands and played at countless festivals. His aim in this class is to energize musicians and expose them to the world of the guitar.

Dog Obedience Class Offered

Basic Dog Obedience class will be offered on Thursdays, September 13 – November 1 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The class will meet on the H. Claude Bush Honors Plaza on the Blytheville campus. The fee is $105 for 8 sessions.

 Dog Obedience is designed to help you better understand your pet. This course will enable you to train your dog to be a welcome member of the family. Information will include sits, sit-stays, down, down-stays, recall, standing for examination, leading in several formations, socialization skills, training as a companion dog and a well-mannered dog for the home.

 Dick Hefner, the instructor, has trained dogs for 24 years. Hefner said he feels the intelligence of dogs is under-appreciated in our society. “Dogs have unconditional love and are always there for you. A well-trained dog is a joy to be around. It is easier to take him out in public and have other people come to your home and enjoy him,” Hefner said.

Country and Western Line Dance Class

Country and Western Line Dance will be offered on Thursdays, September 20 to November 15 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Class will meet in the aerobics room in the Briggs/Sebaugh Wellness Center on the ANC Blytheville campus. Tonya Harris will instruct the class. Registration fee is $36 for 8 sessions.

Ms. Harris will teach such favorites as the San Antonio Stroll, Electric Slide, Honky Tonk Stomp, Cotton Eyed Joe, Little Black Book, Ah Si!, Upside Down for Starters, Chaka Chaka, Cajun Slap, Sidewinder, Cowboy Charleston, Cajun “Thang”, Blue Roses, Country Boy, Cab Driver, Flying Eight, Space Jam, Blue Boy, Hillbilly Nut and more. Grab a friend and come dance!

Live Life Raw

“Live Life Raw” will be offered on Saturday, September 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The class will meet at Main Street Natural Foods Market, 808 East Main, Blytheville. The class fee is $30.

 The raw culinary expertise of LaTricia Morris will be demonstrated with the use of tools, techniques and innovation when eating raw. Health benefits of a raw diet (no meats) include weight loss, extra energy and glowing supple skin. Be prepared to sample delicious drinks and recipes.

Dance for Children: Ballet, Jazz and Tap, Tuesdays, September 4 to May 28, 2013. Meets in Adams/Vines Recital Hall.

Toss it Around: Medicine Ball Fitness Class, Monday and Wednesdays, September 5 to December 5, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.. Meets in the aerobics room in the Briggs/Sebaugh  Wellness Center. Class is free.

Cougar Fitness

Tuesdays and Thursdays, September 11 – October 11

4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Aerobics Room/ANC Briggs/Sebaugh Wellness Center

 Fee: $38 (5 weeks/10 sessions)

             Cougar Fitness is an aerobic, strength, and sculpting class that is aimed toward female participants ages 40 to 75 years old. Come ready to sweat and reach your healthy lifestyle goals!   It is limited to 12 participants per class, and includes 2 classes of the following schedule.  Keith Hearnsberger is the facilitator for this course!

Total Body Sculpt: Experience this challenging and dynamic whole body muscle conditioning class using dumbbells, exercise balls, & body bars as resistance tools.

 Thighs, Butts, and Guts: This variation on the Total Body Sculpting class focuses specifically on the lower body and core muscle groups.

 On the Ball: This class uses a physioball in combination with dumbbells to improve balance, strength and muscle conditioning

 Upper Body Blast: This upper body muscle conditioning class targets the back, shoulders, biceps, and triceps. If you are sick of doing the same old strength routine come to this class.

 Abs: Stop doing crunches on your own. This abs class uses various stations and/or equipment to make ab work fun again.

 CardioBlast: This class caters to those who wish to improve their fitness, quickness, and agility, through a series of short burst and body weight exercises along with dynamic stretches.
