Understanding Credit Scores

Understanding Credit will meet on Monday, October 15 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. or  from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The class will meet in the Adams/Vines Gallery on the ANC Blytheville Campus.  Registration is free.

 The average credit score in Arkansas is 634 (according to, February 2012) well below what is considered a healthy score of 720 or higher. These three little digits can have a tremendous impact on one’s finances. The score affects how much one pays from auto loans and insurance to utility deposits and can potentially affect one’s employability.

 This session will cover the basics of what is a credit score, factors affecting a one’s score, what one can do to keep credit healthy and information on how and why to check one’s credit report. There will also be pointers on how to build or begin establishing credit. Learn how to look up your report on Staff from Northeast Arkansas Federal Credit Union will instruct the class.

Basic Automotive Workshop

Basic Automotive Workshop will meet Monday, October 15, 22 and 29 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The workshop will meet at the ANC BurdetteCenter.  Registration fee is $39

Participants will learn how, when and why to check the vehicle’s oil, coolant, tire pressure and more. Students learn the smells, sounds, and feels that give hints to problems that need to be corrected before they become serious and costly repair issues. Students learn basic driving techniques that will save money at the gasoline pump as well as at the repair shop. Students need to bring their vehicle, owner’s manual and safety glasses to the workshop. Allen Allison, Automotive Service Technology Instructor, will teach the class.

Cooking Class: “A Taste of Italy”

A Taste of Italy is offered on Thursday, October 11, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the home of Chef Abby Houseworth at 1708 North Wedgewood Drive, Blytheville. Registration fee is $39.

 Imagine dusty tracks through medieval villages, lush vineyards and fields of fresh produce.  A wonderful evening is in store as we prepare classic dishes from the Italy.  The foods of Italy get its distinctiveness from the use of the area’s bounty. Tuscan White Beans, Mushrooms, Lemons, Prosciutto, Tomatoes and Wine all contribute to the culinary style that is unique to Italy. Come savor food from the kitchen of Chef Abby from Bistro 1121 of the Holiday Inn in Blytheville.

Floral Design Concepts Offered

Floral Design Concepts will be offered on Mondays, October 8th to the 22nd, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. The class will meet at Lunsford’s Flowers, 1505 West Main Street, Blytheville. Registration fee payable to ANC is $59 plus $30 for supplies payable to instructor on first day of class.

 This is your chance to get an introduction to the tools, materials, tricks of the florist trade, and basic design technique. Margaret Abbott, owner of Lunford’s Flowers, will instruct the class in her shop. Students will learn how to make permanent and fresh fall arrangements and decorations. Students will take home everything they make.

Windows 7 Offered

Introduction to Microsoft Office Windows 7 offered on Fridays, October 5th through the 26th, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.  The classes will meet in room B206 on the Blytheville ANC campus in the SullinsAdministrationBuilding.  Registration fee is $46 for 4 sessions. 

 Learn the fundamentals of Windows 7, an operating system that performs every function necessary for you to communicate with and use your computer. Randy Newman will instruct the class.

Self Defense for Women Offered at ANC

Self Defense for Women will be offered on Fridays, September 28, October 12 and 26, 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at ANC  on the Blytheville campus. The class is free.

 Self Defense for Women will enpower the student to act in her own defense and achieve self-confidence. If you have ever felt vulnerable or unsafe in your environment, then this is for you. Develop your personal protection skills in this “common sense approach” to self protection. Stu Sigman of the Blytheville Police Department will instruct the class.

ANC will offer Basic Digital Photography

Basic Digital Photography will be offered on Thursdays, September 27 to October 11, 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The class will meet on the on the ANC Blytheville campus. The fee is $49.

Basic Digital Photography will give in-depth and hands-on information to students that want to become more familiar with basic photographic techniques using digital cameras. Students will learn basic techniques pro photographers use to keep shots from being too light or too dark, out of focus and how to put many of those camera controls to good use. Award-winning Photojournalist and Cinematographer H. Wolfgang Porter will take away the mysteries of using your digital camera.

 Students will need to have taken a Digital Cameras De-Mystified course or other introductory photography training or experience. Bring to class a digital camera and its manual, recording media, computer connection cable, one small USB drive 2 GB or larger and one charged camera batter.
